RTI Math Instruction

The RTI project implemented Math Intervention to students for improving their mathematics ability. The Tier II and Tier III students in the group differ according to the need of the skill development in math. Lower group in all grades are struggling with number identification, naming numbers and the place value at their level.

  1. Instructional materials for Tier II and Tier III students receiving interventions focus intensely on in-depth treatment of numbers
  2. Intervention materials helped the students to work with visual representations of mathematical ideas
  3. Instruction during the intervention was explicit and systematic using Concrete- Representational –Abstract strategy. This include problem solving, guided practice and corrective feedback
  4. Drill and practice for Math addition and subtraction

The intervention was focused on two areas: Concept and application and Computation based on their curriculum in the schools.

The table represents the details of aspects below:

Grade Concept and application Computation
Grade I – Tier II & III Students Identifying Numbers and Counting, Missing numbers 1-30, Shapes (circle, square, rectangle, Triangle). Addition and Subtraction (one -digit for Tier III and Tier II students) computing numbers below 1-30
Grade II – Tier II & III Students Identifying two-digit Numbers, Before and After numbers, Missing Numbers, Biggest and Smallest numbers, Naming numbers, Objects and its shapes, place value, odd and even numbers and Math vocabulary Addition and Subtraction (two -digit for Tier III and Tier II students) computing numbers below 1-99
Grade III – Tier II & III Students identifying three-digit Numbers, Naming numbers, Missing Numbers, shapes, place value, odd and even numbers, ascending and descending order, word problem on addition and subtraction, tally marks, Time and money concept, Math vocabulary Addition and Subtraction (three-digit for Tier III and Tier II students) computing numbers below 1-999. practicing mind addition and subtraction
Grade IV – Tier II & III Students identifying four-digit Numbers, Naming numbers, Missing Numbers, place value, ascending and descending order, expansion and contraction of numbers, word problems, Time and money concept, fractions, Math vocabulary Addition and Subtraction (four-digit for Tier III and Tier II students) computing numbers below 1-9999. practicing mind computation
